A dumped dog's prayer 2

I lay in a ditch
it is dark and cold around me
my body is hurting
my breath is fast.

It is dark and it is raining
i cannot move
the sides are so slippery
i can't pull myself out.

My coat is soaked
there's heavy thunder
in the clouds above
and i am afraid.

Why did they dump me
did i do something wrong
or was i just in the way
why could i not stay?

I can not sleep
i am so scared now
and so very alone
why am i here?

The night was so long
the water has risen
the daylight is here
but a cold wind is blowing.

I tried to get up
my legs don't want to move
i cry out in pain
maybe someone could hear.

I heard a voice calling
i cried yet once more
then i saw someone
looking down at me.

How did you get here?
How long have you
been stuck in this ditch?
I will get you out safely.

Her hands was gentle
her voice was soft
she took off her jacket
and wrapped me in it.

She hold me against her
while struggles to get out
she took me home and
gave me a bath.

Don't you worry
you'll be okay now
you are home now
you are safe.
