We keep on being told that religion, whatever its imperfections, at least instills morality. On every side, there is conclusive evidence that the contrary is the case and that faith causes people to be more mean, more selfish, and perhaps above all, more stupid. |

@ lugus - 25.06.14 - 08:07am That statement maybe true to some but not others. But what you must also remember religion is the reason for civilization. All civilizations were born out out a belief in 1 form of religion or another its laws structures even culture were all born from religious law. Religion may not be perfect you may think its a lie however it is because of it you live in a society All civilizations fall. We entered the scientific age through the age of reason. Not because of religion, but in spite of it. |

One must state it plainly. Religion comes from the period of human prehistory where nobodynot even the mighty Democritus who concluded that all matter was made from atomshad the smallest idea what was going on. It comes from the bawling and fearful infancy of our species, and is a babyish attempt to meet our inescapable demand for knowledge (as well as for comfort, reassurance and other infantile needs). Today the least educated of my children knows much more about the natural order than any of the founders of religion, and one would like to thinkthough the connection is not a fully demonstrable onethat this is why they seem so uninterested in sending fellow humans to hell.

@ dgsn - 25.06.14 - 06:35pm All civilizations fall. We entered the scientific age through the age of reason. Not because of religion, but in spite of it. Im not saying otherwise you misread the point civilisation is about because religion started it not once did I say it continues civilisation. All laws of all civilisations past and present have a base model on religious law |
