If anyone could shed some light on this topic please. I have an iPad 2 which is being sold as 16gig Wifi + Cellular. Hence it is said to be cellular, can it receive smses? I don't see any message inbox application except for the emails. |

iPads can receive texts sent via iMessage. Not normal messages as it doesn't have conventional phone radio.

If it is true that an SMS also uses the gsm technology just like the one used in making phone calls, then an iPad cannot be able to receive SMSes. With iMessage, not many ppl I know use Apple devices cos it can only work between Apple products. I will have to rely on emails in the meantime

Bitesms works on the iPad 2,not sure that Whatapp does though as a mobile number is required upon signing up for it.

WhatsApp can be used on iPad as long as you use a valid phone number. It'll just pair your iPad against that number. But WhatsApp doesn't have an iPad optimised version of the app.
