It seems that my favorite and still current music app winamp is shutting down for good after 15 long years in the industry. It was once one of the must have apps as far as music is concerned. From the days of windows 98 I have used it. partly coz it was the only music app that would run like butter in my slow system. Sad to see that the latest release is the last one ever . |

what sets foobar2000 apart? Previously i loved winamp for its effects coz i could use em with movies. Audio enhancements and plugins on it were above WMP. Then KMplayer came along and it has been my go to video app. But winamp remains my music app of choice. I wonder how good Foobar2000 is.

Its probably the most customiseable player out there.

I use WMP for music. I have tried pretty much every other player that is recommended by people, including Winamp and Foobar, but WMP seems best to me.

I just remembered I had media monkey gold on my old laptop. Had some good features, actually it has the best features, it downloads podcast, converts, burns, etc.

winamp can do that too, although I'm yet to do podcasts with it, it should be able to subscribe and download podcasts. I tried foobar2000 today and I was greeted with this plain setting that the thought of me customizing it from such a bottom level had me uninstall it. I'll stick with the current winamp till I outgrow it or grow to like something else

Winamp has gone downhill ever since AOL bought it. Then again, I can say the same thing about YouTube since Google bought it.

rumors are Microsoft are sniffing around at the prospect of buying winamp. also theres a petition going around to save einamp. its got nearly 7000 signatures last time i checked. the petition is for it to become open source.

Hmm, the only reason I can figure why Microsoft might want Winamp is for all the plugins and visualizations.
