Nokia and Microsoft have launched a new line of Nokia phones that will be cheaper than the Lumia line. The highly rumored Nokia X along with its dual-sim variant X+ (Plus) and 5inch variant XL went official today. Nokia took the open source parts of Android from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and built a new platform on top of it with signature Nokia and Microsoft experiences like a tile-based interface, Skype and tight OneDrive integration. These phones run a 'forked' version of Android with Google Services e.g. Google Play, GMail, Google Maps etc... stripped out, but they do allow sideloading of APK apps. The phones are low end with price being the main factor, so the specs are not great, Nokia X and X Plus: 4inch 480x800 IPS display, 768mb RAM, Snapdragon S4 chip, 4GB internal mem and 3MP Fixed Focus camera: http://is.gd/YrtU1i .Nokia XL: 5inch 480x800 IPS display, 1GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU, 768mb RAM, 4GB Internal plus MicroSD, 5MP Camera with LED flash, FM Radio, 2000mAh battery. Available Q2 2014, with no plans to be sold in Western Europe or USA, only emerging markets: http://is.gd/ag4lSi |

That's stupid. They'd sell a lot in western Europe countries. I'm so disappointed.

or maybe they're testing the waters, see how they sell then move on up? Basically I don't think they have much choice but to fully embrace Android, especially with symbian dead and buried (rip)

do you think wp sales could be so bad the that microsoft would go all the way with Android ? that would be such a humiliation for them

That's not gonna happen. WP is taking off and with WP8.1 and a new flagship sales will increase further. They are just capturing the power end market where WPs can't reach. Or maybe Microsoft can kill the project after the acquisition completes. I like android but WP ain't a slouch either.. :)

@ 3mel - 26.02.14 - 02:16am do you think wp sales could be so bad the that microsoft would go all the way with Android ? that would be such a humiliation for them if you're a company, do you want to save face or increase or maintain profits? Who would've thought Nokia would release an Android? I wrote it off as rumours especially since it happened after the MS acquisition. So watch thus space I say...High end Android from Nokia is not far fetched. |

Microsoft were quick enough to shut down Symbian and meego for good. and they have a track record for buying or trying to destroy anyone or thing that rivals their own product. so yes, I do think they have an element of corporate ''pride'' to them as a company...

well clearly it ain't working for them, else they wouldn't have touched Android, would they?
