@ wakeup4 - 21.05.19 - 07:15pm You might as well bail out Jamie olivers Restaurant chain then. There is enough burden on the taxpayer as it is. How much would the burden be of thousands of people thrown out of work in an already deprived area? |

The government devised a plan to help people like Jamie Oliver, as well as the high street stores, in their fight against online business. But the EU have ruled it out. I love the fact that Jamie is a remainer, and the EU have stopped the government giving him the support he needs. |

@ 9362 - 21.05.19 - 08:56am In danger of going into administration. Screwed by the venture capitalists who took it over a year ago and have since charged 20 million in management fees. Screwed by the eu making it pay 100 million pounds for an emission tax. Time to renationalise it Nationalising a business that is losing money is not a good idea, it's a waste of taxpayers money. It's the importation of cheap Chinese steel that is at fault with British Steel losing trade. Some are also blaming the uncertainties over Brexit |

@ bambi60 - 21.05.19 - 09:25am There's something at the back of my mind about the demise of the British Steel industry ..... The UK goverment and especially boris argued against the EU putting up import tax on chinese steel. At the current 9 '/. duty chinese steel works out even after transportation costs to be around 35 '/. cheaper than we can make it on british soil. The USA have slapped a hefty 250 '/. import tax on chinese steel. The UK government could of saved british steel years ago they just didnt want to. Credit where its due to the EU who wanted to help but were stopped by our government. |

But if you take away the carbon tax of 100 million pounds which the eu is forcing it to pay British steel would be making money |
