I meant defeating their purpose of trying to compete with Android. If people can actually use android apps on Ubuntu then people will just use Android instead of using Ubuntu plus android apps. It is unusual for an Operating System to have a VM for running its main desktop/consumer apps,etc Android. Well there was symbian, but that was symbian with native and j2me support,j2me as being a side platform for it and it wasn't seemlessly integrated in the OS as with android. The program in an OS is

I agree. But since most of the libraries, kernel ... the low level stuff plus even the display server is of android i dont think integrating dalvik should be a problem, but yeah i think they should go with the linux way, we now need open source alternatives to android.

Actually i would like a pure debian linux distro on mobile like maemo or meego, the only one following this way is currently jolla with their sailfish os, its not debian but mer based which itself is based on meego CE, you should check it out funtikar its intresting too and its sdk just got released.
