Hey guys I gotta compaq laptop wid 1.66centrino duo and 2gig ram. its used mainly for photo editing. is there anyway i can improve the performance even more? the machine does run quite well and i use reg mechanic and ccleaner and defrag once a week. i find most normal operations work quite well but it does start to bog down a bit during photoshop batch processing and while its only using 1.3gig of memory. |

You.ll need atleast 2.0ghz or more powerful cpu to run photoshop without slow down

editor there is not much easier way to do the batches. even if i edit each pic individually it takes quite a few seconds to save a psd. it freezes while saving. each photo including layers is around 150mb to 300mb. the laptop does lockup while saving. memory doesnt seem to be an issue.

Photoshop needs a combination of a good CPU, a decent GPU, plenty of RAM and ideally, a fast hard drive. Unfortunately that suggests a good all round system. Sounds like a big problem for you however is saving files that are hundreds of megabytes, that can be incredibly slow on old hard drives, easily 10 seconds+

i don't know a lot about photoshop, using gimp nstead but a 150 to 300MB for a single image?how many layers you ve got,are you building a movie or what? maybe photoshop keeps undo/redo info along with the images, maybe you need to save it as bmp or jpeg, don't know

bitmaps are big. jpeg compression is obviously better to reduce size
