i have just ordered a pine64 board from the USA. which uses the same a53 chip set as the raspberry and that says it will run 4k, thou it uses the mali 400 gpu and not the broadcom videocore iv of the raspberry pi 3, it also comes with 2gb of memory as standard. Only problem with it is it will only play kodi using the android op system. Gonna try running marshmellow on it, only problem is its a 12.6gb download

@ usbcable - 3.06.16 - 05:54pm Raspberry pi 3 can't do 4k because the GPU can't handle h265. I don't think all 4k videos are in h.265 / HEVC |

a quick google says there is a x.265 version of 4k supposed to produce smaller files, i think the problem is the raspberry pi's gpu its ok with 1080p but cant handle 4k so dont think it would make much of a difference what compression format the videos are in.

high end phones have only started supporting h.265 in the last year ish... it's entirely hardware dependent with no workarounds |

The new ARM A73 system on chip solution will bring good things. It's gonna support vertical reality 3D video and 4K resolution. Phones will have huge performance gain very soon
