Thinking he was a badger    A 61-year-old drink-driver has been jailed for seven years after killing a cyclist she mistook for a badger. Alison Bowen was more than twice over the drink-drive limit when she struck Paul Novak on the A21 at Robertsbridge in November last year, a spokesperson for Sussex Police said. She struck him with such force that her windscreen shattered and the front of her Fiat Punto was caved in but later told officers she thought she had only hit a badger. Bowen then drove off, leaving Mr Novaks body in the road. She continued in her smashed car until she got to Battle and crashed off the road again. Mr Novak, 50, of St Leonards, died at the scene. Bowen, of Battle, pleaded guilty to causing death by driving without due care and attention while over the prescribed limit at Lewes Crown Court. sounds like bs to me, she just didn't want to admit she knew she killed someone and decided to drive off to escape culpability, oh I thought it was a badger

Only 7 years?? which will be 3.5 years on the standard good behaviour tarriff which most prisoners serve, I don't know why they just don't call it 3.5 years which it will be 9 times out of 10. Also hope her driving ban only begins when she gets out, starting it now would be as pointless as concurrant sentences are. |

I get it if it happens and you own up, still unacceptable but shows your responsibility in the incident. She's s horrible old woman. |

poor woman  The cyclists corpse should be in jail. He risked this woman's freedom and safety by allowing her to run him over while intoxicated. If that wasn't enough, he made no effort to stop her driving away to have a second accident. |
