According to Jewish and some christian authorities, the word Adam is from the root 'aw-dam' which means to blush or show blood in the face. Its thus held in Judaism that Adam was of a ruddy-complexion. Its impossible for a darker skinned man to 'show blood in the face'. Refer to the Strong's dictionary of Hebrew and Chaldee for this word.

@ mab21 - 19.04.12 - 10:49am Historically Africa gave the first human population on earth and they emigrated to the other continents. They weren't too many that time, they split in 7 later. Maybe Adam was black. I live not so far away from where some of them fossils were said to be found of the zinjanthropus... Funny thing is most of the leakey family are still alive and they still believe in this stuff |

Of course when missionaries came here they brought depictions of a white Jesus etc... But that was born from their ethnocentrism. Hence I raise my hat to the catholic church for introducing depictions of black Mary, Black Jesus as well, to show the cosmopolitan nature of Christianity. Not that they are true to historical facts. Jesus, Mary, prophets and apostles were neither black nor white but middle-easternish.
