Got the deepcool ak620 air cooler to test out. Its close to the d15 performance for half the price. Just like the d15 it fails to cool the hot intel chips. getting 100c and throttling under heavy load like cinebench r23. Did get a score of 31000 tho. Funny to see the 13700kf beat an old 32core amd treadripper tho Will go with the 420mm aio. If i cant get ridd of the hissing sound on the h170i will get the arctic 420mm one. Air coolers are not as good as a 420mm decent aio. They are good in not getting the water warm up and raising temps slowly but there not able to handle a 260w cpu. None of it matters much in games tho. A loop will always be more stable at cooling and quieter. Same reason engines went for liquid cooling instead of air.

He puts the noctua up against the best aio coolers and it beats them , this is open case mind but most cases have good cooling nowadays . I would take a noctua every time over any aio which are just not worth the money and the reason Im going to build a custom loop |

Loads of guys running the noctua with 13700k full load getting brilliant temps over on TechPowerUp .Maybe your chip isnt a good sample

Ran it with 3 140mm corsair fans and panels closed. still thermal throttling. switched off the e cores and underclocked it to 4.8ghz just to get around 80c. Tried the 420mm aio and that ran a bit better. Did not throttle with all cores enabled at 5.4ghz. But it did almost hit 100c also. The corsair pump gives me migraines still so i threw it out. Will try to go for the arctic aio next maybe. I have seen many 13700k hitting 100c with the d15 and smaller aio coolers. Linus is well known to play around with results because of the corporations influencing him also. Cant trust the guy too well. The arctic 420mm aio that has great performance costs the same as the d15 chromax here.

Steve from gamers nexus showed the d15 and the ak620 performing slightly under the 280mm aio coolers.

Should try the thermal grizzly contact frame also i guess.

Go to TechPowerUp there is a thread for 13700k . Some guys have returned their chips for replacement due to poor thermal performance you may have a crap chip that will be crippled with constant throttling Some poor performance 12th and 13th gen chips have been delided and shown to have little to no solder Tim |

Some of it seems to be from motherboard voltages. Jay2Cents had a custom loop with a 12900k and it hit below 100c in cinebench r23 stock settings. I played around with voltages and could get the power draw down from 260w to 170w. Could even switch on the e cores. I can run the chip on very low voltages this means its not too bad. Also i think the deepcool with its 120mm fans is not up for the job. The stupid auto voltage crap just feeds whatever voltage into the chip on its own.

Everywhere i read comments on these chips throttling. That means there is a low chance of getting a golden sample. Might as well tune it in and run it a few years then delidd it if needed. I do get similar numbers to most of the ppl on yt comments atleast.

Yeah they basically at the limit out of the box as most CPUs are nowadays. Good thing is they undervolt like a boss my 12700k is running a huge undervolt and completely stable . But I would recommend getting the thermal grizzly frame as it made my chip drop temp by 10c |
