I'm having a problem with the idling on my passat. Sometimes it idles fine, sometimes the moment I push in the clutch at a stop street the engine just dies, or it idles erratically. I've replaced a vacuum hose that was perished, but the problem remains. |

If a cars idle changes when you push in the clutch,the thrust washers on the main bearings could be worn.

You check for that by looking at the crancks haft pulley. ask someone to press in the clutch,you will see the pulley move forward about 2mm.

It was probably the clutch going bad.
