@ mikeymk - 24.05.14 - 07:17am Selective reading capital - I answered all that in the post above. Nothing selective about merely pointing out how you were incorrect. I'll also maintain that raw efficiency can generally be pretty dull and boring. I like something to be technically impressive but not necessarily to the point of dullness, especially not with projects to build up old cars. Nobody has a classic car because they want it to be efficient, it runs entirely contrary to the concept of rebuilding, owning and running one. They have one because it is beautiful, or evocative, or iconic. Efficiency means precisely jack in those circumstances. |

I like my Polo, built it, precisely for that kind of reasoning. Torque steer, noise, gearbox breakages occasionally, but I love it. Most people hate it and don't understand, so it's refreshing to hear someone who does. |

@ mikeymk - 12.03.14 - 03:40am The Rover V8 isn't a great engine, my carb'd 1.6 has move power than a mates 3.5 V8 Rover had when it was new. It's a very old design and has inefficient ports, combustion chamber, and valve chain. But a boxer Subaru engine won't go in a Capri without massive work, due to dimensions. My choice would be something like an Alfa V6 or Ford-Jag V6/AJV8. Or BMW straight six or even V8 if it'll go in. Thats a standard Rover V8 then. Theres a place called real steal that do performance add ons for them and trust me you can make a lot of power with a Rover V8. |

The Rover V8 is only 3.5ltr and ive seen cars with them pushing above 400hp

Its same with yank V8...standard not much horsepower but with the right parts and work you can push out well in excess of a 1000hp. Its all down to what work your prepared to do. Its same as when we first started hearing of the 1000hp skylines years ago. Those guys put a lot of work in to get them figures
