Most do it by recovering energy from when you brake to charge a battery. Which then powers an electric motor to supplement the engine or even take completely over for long periods. Braking essentially is wasted energy, the kinetic energy of the car turned into heat off the discs. So by loading a motor generator type unit when you brake it converts that into useful electrical energy. There are other methods though of recovering energy from the engine. |
