it's worth bearing in mind that some of the videos will not have aged well, and the early ones were made in an era of, well, video and so look a little grainy, but since she's arguably the greatest female artist this country's ever produced I shall be tuning in with some Innis and Gunn to flavour proceedings.

I wonder whether they'll gloss over the Rolf Harris stuff - his didgeridoo and her imitation of his vocal style are both very evident in The Dreaming and he features on many more tracks which one would hope someone at the Beeb will have had the good taste to have cut.

Her first gig in 35 years is tomorrow night, it'll be fascinating to see what the critics make of it.

The documentary having reinvigorated my enthusiasm for all things Bushy (ahem) I've started reading; 'Under The Ivy - The Life and Music of Kate Bush' by Graeme Thomson. It gives some fascinating insights into her early life and creative process (as well as stuff like EMI dumping the KT Bush band in favour of session musicians for the first two albums). What also comes across is the tremendous respect (if not awe) on behalf of all who worked with her at the start of her career - as sound engineer Jon Kelly reveals of an early recording session for 'The Kick Inside' 'It was fabulous, it was what I had gone into the business to do, to have those moments. They are few and far between. I remember her sitting at the piano singing those songs and it was just mesmerising. You could have put the mike anywhere in the room and recorded it on anything. It was an absolute joy, there was nothing to fix.' |
