I would like to point out, being a recording engineer that theres no point in trying to acheive the perfect setup because all music is processed anyway. The signals go into a mixing desk where we EQ the sounds. Compress or gate them. Then we might use effects such as reverb, delay, chorus, etc, the levels and pan positions of the sounds are adjusted to place instruments in the stereo image. Then theres all the harmonic distortion all the kit would produce plus the effects of digital recording

and processing or analog tapes own artifacts. Next theres mastering which again can drasticaly alter the sound.

The mastering process might involve further eq, multi band compression, and tinkering so the sound dosent always come close to representing the original. Thats when i stopped fussing over my hifi, when i got into music production. The only rule is does it sound good.

This is true but adding FURTHER EQ down the line as part of your own sound setup is just distorting the 'finished' sound even more. If I'm testing for sound quality I generally use something like Naims 'True Stero' recordings, as those are clean two mikes, no EQ albums.

I'm VERY wary of what they put out: I've heard bits n bobs of that Antonio Forcione bloke and to be honest must admit I'd be tempted by some of their vinyl if they bothered to get away from all that twiddly gack so beloved of Verecker

Still, all things considered, Julian Vereker

it's not all twiddly Forcione these days.. (although I like his music personally) they've even put out some hip hop *shock* recently, but most of the recordings on their label are very clean and largely unadulterated.
