Because it's such a complex app with no internal help and an initially confusing array of tool settings, I'll set out below some of the basics that'll help you to create stuff for your wap or website or for mms messages and so forth. |

CREATING AN ANIMATED GIF. Firstly line up the images you wish to use and number or name them in the order in which you want them to appear - for this example we'll assume you're making a gif consisting of five frames, and that you've numbered them 1 to 5. Open image number 1 (which will be the first frame of your gif) by going to: 'menu/image/open', then go to: 'menu/image/tools/place image'

and choose image number 5, then 'menu/image/tools/place image' and choose image number 4, then 3, then 2 (yeah I know, but that's the way it works) if you don't follow this procedure your finished gif will jerk at the start then run backwards, and we doesn't want that does we preciouss? No my love, we doesn't.. Now go to: 'menu/image/tools/create animation'

on the next screen, just press 'ok' at the top right, on the next screen, hit 'frames', then 'add all layers'. The app will cycle for a few seconds then the frames of your gif will appear in the viewing area at the top of the page. Now you need to set the delay between frames - this is in the box marked 'Delay' and is calculated in milliseconds so if you want a second between each frame enter '100

0' for half a second '500' and so forth. When you're happy, just press 'ok', name it, save it and you're done. BTW - if you don't have Pocket Artist, or you can't be bothered going through the procedure (it's a lot easier and quicker than it sounds above - I can make one in under a minute) check out my 'Gif Generously' blog for online alternatives.

CREATING A WAP/WEB LOGO. For this example we'll assume that you'll be cutting letters out of an existing image, similar to the 'Garion' logo in the 'Show Us Your..' topic. Firstly, open the image you wish to cut the letters from - it's worth noting that if you're going to use this method it's best to use an image with a variety of colour but not necessarily complexity of detail.

Now hit the text selection tool from the bottom bar (far right) and choose 'Text outline'. Move the text over the image to the desired position, now go to 'menu/select/select inverse', then go to: 'menu/edit/clear'. After cycling for a while (depending on the size of the image) you'll be left with your chosen text cut from the pic against a white background. Now hit: 'menu/select/select inverse'

now go to: 'menu/edit/copy merged' and click, your newly-created text will be copied to the apps internal clipboard. Now to create the shadow.. Go to: 'menu/image/new', it'll ask if you want to save your changes, hit 'no'. In the size boxes for the new image you'll see the width and height of your copied text - expand it out so you've got room to work -

say it's 597 by 162, make it 700 by 300 or whatever, and in 'background' CHOOSE TRANSPARENT (then you'll be able to place your finished logo on any background). Now return to the 'text outline' tool, your previously selected text, font and size will already be in there, hit 'ok'. Now placing the 'marching ants' outline on a background consisting of grey and white squares is an

absolute NIGHTMARE, so if you're having difficulty making out where it is, hit the 'paint bucket' tool below the 'paintbrush' (far left) and fill it in, then hit 'menu/edit/undo' until you're happy with it's position. Now choose your shadow colour/lightness/darkness from the colour picker to the right (R160, G160, B160 works well)

Now go to 'menu/select/feather' and enter a value - this makes the shadow more diffuse at the edges giving a more natural feel than a sharp-edged one, I'd suggest setting this to '17' but it's a matter of personal preference. Now choose the 'paint bucket' tool and apply it to your outlined text (it'll look horrible, but don't worry). Now go to: 'menu/edit/paste' - this will paste your previously
