Ok what was before modern man, homo erectus or neandertal man i guess and how long ago was that about half a million years ago? so how come us men still have hairy arses to this day? am i been silly in thinking we are evolving at a slow pace otherwise why in this day and age do we still need hair in places we dont. |

Well, shave it, and see if you miss it. If you don't then you've proven it isn't needed. If you do, then you'll see why we still have it.

Nobody can really be sure anymore. There was a dig in a cave in Eastern Europe, and guess what? If the carbon dating can be believed, we were all living side by side. |

I'd say Homo erectus is right before Homo sapiens/modern man, who've supposedly been around 400 000 years. Dated back to first fossilized modern man teeth.
