There's many strange things in Buddhism. The rainbow body scenario is one of them. Highly aware lamas can after death retain the subtle mind in the corpse and over a period of a week shrink the corpse until it disappears. All that remains after that time is the hair, nails and teeth. As the body shrinks and disappears mini rainbows appear around it..hence the phenomena' s name. If I'm not mistaken this has been filmed..I may be wrong about that though. Other cases involve corpses not smelling, not decaying for weeks and at the time the mind leaves the body via the top of the head it leaves so violently that parts of the skull are found metres away. Not sure I described all that very well but hey ho I tried. |

There's an interesting YouTube video on a monk in New Zealand who's corpse didn't smell after he has been dead for weeks.

i read somewhere that a medievil monk who went round doing good deeds died and he was burried. About 400 years later his coffin was dug up and his body had not decayed at all. He was just like he was asleep. He was made a saint because of it

Yep. However temperature and lack of moisture in the air can delay the decay of a corpse. Scientists will have different reasons for the slow decay than the monks do.
