@ bambi99 - 28.03.17 - 02:30am Here's a question for all the people who think WhatsApp should co- operate with the growing surveillance intelligence. .. If a total stranger came up to you in the street and asked Where are you going ? or..Whose this guy with you ?..or... What are you talking about ? ..you'd probably say ' wtf has it to do with you ' so why do you think it's ok for a total stranger to access your private (as in personal to you ) messages and contacts ? To put that into context, some bloke in the security service etc isnt going to think 'ooo I'll have a nosey what bambi is upto' for no reason. Just like if you've searching for how to make a bomb then you can expected to be stopped in the street by someone |

@ dan27notts - 27.03.17 - 10:21pm Don't wanna go against their human rights or hurt their feelings. Surprised we have seen a 'hug a jihadi' campaign yet Seen Andrew neil's monologue yet? ''attacked by a poundland terrorist, a jumped up jihadi Johnny'' |

The police can kick down your front door and they freeze money in your bank, but they can't look at a messaging app of a cold blooded killer? Seems a bit strange or is there something else?

We're not talking random strangers though are we ....we're talking about inteligiance agencies having the power to access info about suspect people ....why on earth do you and others assume they would have the slightest interest in someone like you ....I assume you know what powers they already have? |

@ kimjongl - 27.03.17 - 02:45pm Data mining, control, corporate marketing interests. Information is the most valuable currency in the world, if you have unlimited access to private information it can be very useful in many ways. We're talking about inteligiance agencies here ...maybe the police ...not any old stranger |

@ eyesore - 28.03.17 - 08:39am We're talking about inteligiance agencies here ...maybe the police ...not any old stranger We have something called RICA here. It means everyone who has a sim card has to register their name, ID and physical address before it will be activated. No one can operate a cell phone here unless the sim has been registered. We were told this is to prevent crime and terrorism and to make it easier to catch these people. Which is fine. Do you know what RICA is actually used for 90pc of the time? Marketing from cold callers. We were told our info would remain private and only be accessed by responsible security agencies. Now the marketers will openly tell you they get your details from the RICA database. I have no problem with legitimate threats being investigated and that info being accessible to the security agencies. But get a warrant first, it shouldn't be hard if they have probable cause. Follow the law and due process you're meant to be upholding. |

@ eyesore - 28.03.17 - 08:40am just to be clear they ain't looking for new powers just for whatsapp to abide by the law and help police in a on going investigation If Whatsapp is breaking an existing law they can be taken to task. If there's no legal obligation for them to help they don't have to do anything. Have the police not obtained a warrant? |
