In London there is a lot of graffitti popping up saying ''google'' flat earth, and flat earth society. Just wondering IF the earth did indeed turn out to be flat what benefit would there be from scientists etc saying the earth was a sphere shape ? why not just come out and say yep its flat , if it was ? also what benefit is there for flat earth believers in thinking the world is flat ? |

I can't even comprehend the level of fuckwittery and willfull ignorance needed to believe that the earth is flat. It's not. Period. http://youtu.be/3EspZtA7C3o

@ obi_jon - 8.09.17 - 09:13am I can't even comprehend the level of fuckwittery and willfull ignorance needed to believe that the earth is flat. It's not. Period. http://youtu.be/3EspZtA7C3o Oh wait, yes I can. Belief in a flat earth is usually(but not always) rooted in a flatearther's religious beliefs, considering that the primarily cited origins of flat earth ideas are indeed the Bible and the Qur'an. It seems to me that the recent resurgance of people believing in a flat earth is due to 2 factors, 1)the anti-science movement that regard the views of scientists and the authority of experts in specific fields with extreme suspicion and who reject all the available evidence, even when it is easily verifiable. This movement is closely related to the realm of conspiracy theorists, which brings us to factor 2)the internet and the rise of various nutcase enabling platforms like youtube, on which any barmpot with an opinion can reach an audience of millions of their fellow barmpots, sadly meaning that their deranged ideas are spreading at an exponential rate. |

It's stupid, but I'm too lazy to care if people want to believe that.
