Only if you ride on the clutch foot shouldn't really be on the clutch for long and more you brake the more wear on your pads so dammed if you do, dammed if you don't really.

On economy runs you should rarely need your brakes - if you have to brake, then you haven't given yourself enough of a buffer zone for flexibility. For example, you shouldn't have to brake if the car in front turns down a side road , because you should have enough distance to spend on it.

My jag xj6 was auto and that was like driving a bumper car at the fair. I prefer manual boxes stops me getting bored
