so sick of seeing ads and hearing about it... it really annoys the hell out of me .... 67 minutes of charity.... helping someone.... painting some place or cleaning up somewhere.. for me it's false and quite cruel... and a done for recognition and that is not real charity what abt the rest of the year? giving the hungry a meal one day in a year because it's Mandela day is so hypocritical ... you aren't showing how much you care. you are showing what a sheep you are.. |

sometimes I also think and feel this is all done to keep the ANC relevant and for votes .. to remind the ppl what the ANC did and not what they are doing

It's a virtue signaling day. To help paper over the real problems and real culprits. No one cares. I have never seen or heard of anyone doing anything special on this day in real life, only on TV and radio.

And now they're going to have Obama speaking tomorrow and we're going to be bombarded with coverage of that as if Mandela and Obama ever had anything in common. Their attempts at creating a narrative are all so superficial and transparent. No one wants to be the child who shouts out that the emperor is naked.

Cape Town International... yes... let's change it's name with money we have to spare because we are such a rich land... most important things first... children dying meh. .. we got plenty to go around |

We're going to be celebrating 25 years of democracy next year. That's 2 complete generations of children who started and finished school under the ANC. And the standard of education has never been worse. A completely missed opportunity with two entire generations now condemned to live just like their parents did under apartheid.

When any community is seen as a guaranteed voting block they are taken for granted by the people they vote for and are seen as not worth the effort by the opposition. Then they end up stagnating in their own misery.

'Somehow' reminds me of the case where photographer simply followed a starving kid without helping him at all. He killed himself later tho.
