After spending almost 42,000yrs trapped in Siberian permafrost, nematode worms found in ice samples were defrosted by scientists and came back to life. The hardy little buggers are now thought to be the world's oldest known living creatures. http://www.techtimes.com/articles/232736/20180727/siberian-worms-frozen-in-permafrost-for-up-to-42-000-years-defrosted-back-to-life.htm |

They'll probably grow into giant dinosaurs now, we're all doomed. Was it something else in the ice? In the soil? |

yes i read this other day weren't they also from two different samples very very very far apart, . . . Im actually wary of these as a spewcicies nematode round worms , . There in all soil but most are parasites and almost alll harmless to humans, some water bourne ones can start eating our brains and cause meningitis. |

Both from the Yakutia region of Siberia, one carbon dated as 32,000yrs old and one 41,700yrs old. |

@ psnality - 28.07.18 - 09:18pm They'll probably grow into giant dinosaurs now, we're all doomed. Was it something else in the ice? In the soil? I read something last week that could have come straight from the pages of Jurassic Park. Where as in the story they extracted the DNA from a blood sucking mosquito trapped in amber to create the dinosaurs, now scientists have actually succeeded in doing something similar in real life. They extracted DNA from an extinct species of fruit fly trapped in amber and created living, flying, cloned copies of fruit flys from the time of the dinosaurs, by splicing the ancient DNA into eggs from a related species of fruit fly still existing today. |
