Taking inflation into account, the rescue would have been 30k, the lilo a staggering 29-30 pound.

When you think about if they just saved the lilo, it doesn't eat or require anything other than occasional air, which is still free. It doesn't seem to require schooling or shows any interest in social activities beyond floating. So the rescue cost the parents like three hundred thousand pounds really, and thirty pounds.
