Proper scampi is supposed to be made with langoustines(aka Dublin Bay Prawns, Norway Lobster), but a lot of stuff that gets sold as being 'scampi' isn't actually the real thing. They often use regular prawns, or reformed lobster tail and/or various types of fish. Monkfish tail used to be a common substitute for scampi as it used to be much cheaper than langoustines, until the TV chefs made it trendy and the price of it went through the roof. It's also properly delicious.

I utterly detest anchovies  , but I absolutely adore worcestershire sauce(which is made primarily from anchovies). Go figure!
