Im a full time carer for my wife who has frontotemperal Dementia. I had to take early retirement in 2015 to look after her. I am not looking for general information I have already have all the information with regards to services available and the financial aspects. Im interested in how people cope on a daily basis, what they can do or cant do with the person they care for. I can take her for short walks, out to local cafes and restaurants and in the car for drives out |

as a carer my hours are 24/7/365 with time off only when I can find someone to take over from me, Her communication is virtually nil so I find myself more isolated and tend to go out only when I take her out for a couple of hours, Washing, Cleaning, cooking, Tidying are a given and I do the best I can on a daily basis. I welcome your thoughts and experiences please

You can check to see if you're applicable for care where nurses visit for an hour or two twice or thrice a week, and make that time for yourself to see some friends or go to the pub.
There's such a thing as carer burnout where carer's face exhaustion and depression due to the seemingly endless tasks involved.

Im a carer for my dad he has dementia I work as a support worker too. I had to fight to get a care package,he gets 7 hours a week for personal care breakfast lunch and tuck at night plus one day a week day care at a centre. I have a brother and sister and we all muck in and take care of everything else its one of the hardest periods of my life...Im mentally and physically done. Kudos to you mate.

I can take her for short walks, out to local cafes and restaurants and in the car for drives out try to get a tracker for her in case she goes awandering when you are to tired to wake up, and make sure you have time for you , just to breathe good luck respite is well worth looking into |

Thanks Bozz its really hard going,when Im not working Im with him weve got respite for him as we all need a break Scottish adult social care is massively underfunded so when I say I had to fight I really did...terrible but I had to break down at an assessment meeting so we got the funding down to carers stress

I remember talking to u years ago Terence, def kudos to u looking after ur wife, my wee bro looks after my Dad hes sadly dying of cancer  he gets help from McMillan but my Dad is stubborn, my wee bro is his full time carer n I go round n help when I can, hes all over the place it's such a shame n heart breaking, down in the dumps n totally drained one day n cant get out of bed then can be up n about n chirpy n cheeky the next, we didnt think he would make it to see his 70th either did he, it was the 17th February we went round to his house n I got a cake made with a fisherman on it, he used to love fishing but hasnt the strength anymore, hes had 2 lung operations but now hes covered in lymph nodes n refusing chemotherapy n radiation, we need to respect his wishes as hard as it is , hes had enough n it's his choice
