So much for Nokia supporting Symbian until 2016: 'While apps will still be available for download to customers (and developers will still continue to receive revenue for published apps), developers will no longer be able to publish or update apps on the Ovi Store after the January 1 deadline.' http://is.gd/5AQN0b |

this is microsoft expressing their unique weakness as a product vendor yet again... ''we have such confidence in our product, we're going to make it harder for any rivals to exist''

Indeed. Microsoft have been nothing but toxic for Nokia, it's been so sad to watch.

this news is unsurprising because of the takeover. But the question is when will the ovi store for symbian stop?

Microsoft isnt the toxic for nokia, nokia destroxed it's self alone... they locked symbian and the y fc*ed up everything ! I,ve said that when s60 v3 was out, and no one believed, so it just took few years, to proove my point |

it has been a slow death for symbian. maybe if nokia had jumped on the android bandwagon from day one they would be in a very different position today. but maybe it wont be the end of the world even when the store has gone cos people will just do what they allways did before the store even existed, download apps from 3rd party sites, there are still plenty of them even now. so the eventual removal of the store wont totally kill it off. back when I had my 3650 I allways downloaded from 3rd party sites, and there are still no shortage of them today because ive googled it recently.

getjar is one example of many. all it means is that with a store its more conveniant because they are all in one place. but in a way you know, finding them is half the fun, sometimes things can be just too easy. some find the hunting quite rewarding, because its a challenge, you never know what you might find, bit like fishing! what iam trying to say is, if symbian was my only phone this wouldnt worry me that much and wouldnt push me to go elsewhere if I liked the platform.
