Hi i get an autorun file appearing in my memory stick everytime i upload pix from it to my pc. It cant b deleted and card needs formatting everytime i put it back in my camera. Am assuming this is a virus but avast and adaware cant find it. Is there anyway i can manually sort this problem? I cant formatt laptop cos too much important data there. Thanks |

burn the important data on dvds than format the laptop,than disable autorun and scan the dvds for infected files

Turn off autorun for all devices, on all OSes... It is a high risk vs low usefulness.

Autorun viruses are as old as operating systems themselves. Probably older. PS. also avoid cheap chinese s**t (especially usb thumb drives) with malicious firmware. Back in the days when even legit tech / gaming magazines had dumb as heck staff distributing malware ''by accident'' on their demo/software discs, floppy disks etc.
