tools - you will need some basic tools for constructing projects if you plan to solder with either veroboard or circuit boards. Soldering irons i mentioned, there are lots of brands around. I like the Antex ones but Weller are good too.

solder is the next thing and you should buy 60/40 tin lead content solder with a core of flux down the middle. You want to buy thin solder thats about 0.5 mm diameter otherwise soldering will be difficult and you wont get good results. 5 pounds/dollars/bucks

i should mention you get lead free or standard lead content solder but i would say it dosnt matter use either as long as its got a flux core and is 60/40.

next you want a de solder pump to remove excess solder 5 pounds/dollars/bucks. Pliers are needed for bending wire and component leads. Get a nice fine pair of pointed nose pliers and a bigger thicker pair. Around 10 pounds/dollars will get you a couple of adequate sets.

a couple of pairs of side cutters - you should get a fine pair with blades that give a flush cut. These are for cropping leads after you solder them on a circuit board. The a thicker pair of side cutters for cutting heavier wire etc. Again Around 10 pounds/dollars will get you a couple of adequate pairs.

@ plzgvhug - 24.08.11 - 04:07pm This topic is to discuss what you need to setup a basic electronics workshop. Talk about what basic tools and equipment you will need and roughly how much you should spend on each. Yes infact this is favorite topic that I was looking for, am one of those who planning for that procedure. |

To tell you the truth, you're going to need about 5,000 USD of inventory and some very specialized tools that will also cost you about that. And that's only if you plan to set up shop in your garage. Hint: Don't buy those cheap tools from eBay, they can be very hazardous to your safety and might leave you libel for property damages. |

you don't have to spend that much. All tools are dangerous if used incorrectly. Electronics is mostly delicate work so you won't be needing any welders or snap on tools but basic tools are all you need when starting out
