Im in the market for a nice mid range gpu, not looking at maxing every game out at 1080. My budget is between 120 and 150gbp, any ideas what would be best to get? |

6850/560ti the radeon is marginally faster. Some can be unlocked. 560 overclocks better. Cooler and quieter.

To be fair those are a b it pricier than you said i apologise for not reading it well, i was in a rush. 6870/560 bog standard are in that price range. They go head to head. 560 is cooler but uses more power. It does still overclock better than 6870 though

No worries spartan, and cheers for the advice both of you, looking at this one, or is it worth spending the extra pennys for some more shader units? Not looked at gpu tech for ages so im really uninformed at the moment.

Depends if you can wait? we are maybe 2 months away from the Radeon 7000 series, 3 months at worst i reckon. If you can;t wait, i wouldn;t blow a lot of cash on a GPU now. If you could wait then it will be worth it

What sort of performance increase would we be looking at for that? Plus as I said playing everything maxed out isnt really an issue for me, ive lasted this long on an 8800 lol. If its a big jump however ill start getting the other parts for my new build

Well we have been on this generation now for nearly 18 months, the total brand new next gen comes within 3 months. The performance jump or at least price/performance jump should be pretty impressive

18months?! Hmm guess I should wait for some benchmarks to turn up and make my mind up then, if its not worth the extra cash at least it should drive down the older parts

Well the GTX480 arrived in march 2010. The new generation is close now. I can;t say exactly what prices and performance you would get, but i would be surprised if you couldn;t pick up a card very early next year that will be as fast as a GTX580 for 150-200 quid
