It could be that there was a recovery partition on the HDD but it either isn't there or isn't being recognised. Easiest thing to try is to install windows from disk.. Not the recovery disk that you have though, a normal windows install disk.

What happens if you hold down the 0 (zero) key on the keyboard while powering on?

kas it needs a new hdd... you can try deleting the partitions on the 1 you have creating new 1s and formatting. you may get lucky in that the disk isnt completely sh*gged. but i doubt it... lappys dont like being dropped.
