i5 3570k about 170 quid. A decent Z77 motherboard is 100 quid. for example a Gigabyte Z77X-D3H is rather a good choice on a budget. You can get 8Gb of 1600mhz DDR3 for about 30 quid. Decent 1 terabyte drive is 60 quid. A good enough DVD writer is easily less than 15 quid these days. Good PSU is maybe 60 quid. Decent 24 inch monitor maybe 130.

@ spartan2 - 3.12.12 - 10:14pm i5 3570k about 170 quid. By my estimate that comes out around 565 quid and you'll need an OS, GPU and a case. Thats about 85 quid for standalone Win8. Thats 650 quid without a GPU or case. So lets say you spend 50 on a decent case, thats 700 quid. You can get a good graphics card for about 130 quid but here you do indeed get what you pay for. Total is like 830 quid. You could probably shave here and there but if you wanna take chunks off you'll want to downgrade parts. |

Budget another few quid for peripherals/fans etc. So really its up to you where you might cut corners or reduce the cost of parts, or simply downgrade on the CPU/monitor/case for example. I mean I just gave you generous estimates of quality parts. You can get cheaper and cut here and there if you are happy with other stuff. You can get perfectly nice looking cases for 25 quid, you can get smaller cheaper hard drives. You can get perfectly reasonable monitors for 115 quid. Maybe 50 quid PSU if its only 550w which is all you'll probably need. So there are savings to be had in that.

I would probably be able to slice of a few quid here and there looking at best prices online and spending a little time there. A quick glance shows I can get a spinpoint F3 1TB for 50 quid from kikatek. 95 quid for that specific board. 13.50 quid for a OEM DVD writer.
