I believe this could be the future of computing as we speak.... Field Programmable Gate Array... Devices can be used to design anything. Build powerfull custom CPU's, realtime video and audio Digital Sgnal Processors that process data in hardware. Build very fast communications systems and network controllers with almost no latency. |

I'm gonna get into FPGA based system design because from my initial research it looks very interesting. The possibility of building a custom design that does the functions I need and running processes in hardware as opposed to software to give huge leaps in processing speed. That's exciting stuff.

There's also the capability to modify or add new functions to the system you have made while it is in service. This eliminates products from becoming obsolete.

I'm guessing intel and amd, nvidia will cease to keep makeing the very fastest CPUs and GFX cards before too long and it will get taken over by the likes of Altera and Xlinx with FPGA's in our PC's.
