Valentines Day: Warnings Regarding Zina (fornication) & benefits of restraining and lowering the gaze.

(Below is an abstract from the khutbah which was delivered by shaykh Abdul Raheem hafizahullah)

After hamdo thana he said:



It is a day in which fornication, vulgarity, sins, and immorality become widespread.



Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (May peace and blessings be upon him) has informed us that fornication is not only committed through s*xual intercourse.

Our beloved Prophet (May peace and blessings be upon him) said:

Verily Allah has noted down the amount of Zina son of Adam was to commit, the adultery of the eyes is looking, the adultery of the tongue is talking, and the heart dreams and desires, and a persons private parts sometimes succumbs to that desire and other times they fail.

In another narration it is added, The adultery of the ears is listening, the adultery of the hands is touching, and the adultery of the feet is walking

Our beloved Prophet (May peace and blessings be upon him) has informed us that The faith of an adulterer is drawn out while he/she is engaged in the act.

He said (May peace and blessings be upon him) The adulterer does not commit adultery whilst he is a believer. The thief does not steal when he is stealing whilst he is a believer. And a person does not consume alcohol when he is consuming it whilst he is a believer. (A true believer)



He also said: When a person commits adultery, Allah extracts the light of imaan from his heart.

In another narration, it is mentioned that adultery is one of the major sins.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Masood reports that he said: Ya Rasulallah, in the eyes of Allah, which is the gravest sin? He replied, That you associate partners with Allah even though it is he who created you. I asked: Then which sin? He replied, That you murder your child for fear of having to feed him I asked: Then which sin? He replied, That you commit adultery with your neighbours wife

Faqeeh Abul Layth Samarqandi (R.A) says: Allah has prohibited fornication in all four scriptures, The Torah, Psalms, Bible and Al-Furqan. (ie. the Quran)

Allah says in the Quran Do not even go close to fornication. It is indeed a shameful act, and an evil path to follow.

He also says: And that has been prohibited for the believers.

: . ( 151)

He says And do not go near shameful acts, whether clear or hidden, and do not kill a person whom Allah has given sanctity, except with a just cause. This He has enjoined upon you, so that you may understand.



And also from amongst the signs of Qiyaamah is that Zina will become rampant.

Our beloved Rasul (sallallahu alayhi wasallam said: Verily, from the signs of Qiyaamah is that knowledge will be taken away, and ignorance will be widespread, the drinking of alcohol will increase, adultery will become rampant, and the men will become less, and the women will increase to the extent that for fifty women will be one man (ie. supported by one man.)

And it is for this reason that Allah instructed us to lower the gaze.

Allah (subhanahu wa taaala) says Tell the believing men that they must lower their gazes and guard their private parts; it is more purifying for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do. And tell the believing women that they must lower their gazes and guard their private parts, and must not expose their adornment, except that which appears thereof, and they must cover their bosoms with their headgear.

Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam says: (Allah (swt) says:) Verily staring is a poisonous arrow from the arrows of Iblees, whoever leaves it for my sake, I will bless him with such a worship that he will feel its sweetness in his heart.

Ibn Umar reports that Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam said The first gaze is a mistake, the second one is intentional and the third one is destructive. A believers staring at the beauties of a women is a poisonous arrow from the arrows of Iblees. Whoever gives it up for fear of Allah and due to hope of reward from Allah, Allah will recompense him with such worship that he will feel its sweetness

He said Allahs curse goes upon both, the one who is staring as well as the one is stared at. (Due to immodest clothing).

Imam shafiee rahmatullahi alayhi says in his beautiful poetry:

Be chaste and the ladies in your household will remain chaste refrain from that which does not suite a Muslim.

..

Zina is loan if you give it to someone, then remember it will be paid back to you from within your family.

..

Oh you who severs the dignity of noble people, and devours the paths of love and harmony, may you live void of any respect.

..

If you were a noble person from a respected family, you would not cause any disgrace to your fellow muslim.

..

Remember! Whosoever fornicates will have to suffer the same, even if the act was to be repeated with his wall. If you are a man of understanding then take heed.

May Allah save us, our loved ones, and all communities from all forms of indecent activities.
