Yamta, you won't be able to shut down the applet container - if it's a web browser it could be serving multiple applets from different pages. The best you could hope to do would be to try to redirect the browser to a new page, or to simply stop all of the processing in your applet and display a static image or some text telling the users to close the browser/applet viewer
