The easiest way,Ive found,is to translate words. An example. Cup is translated puc, i have a cup, translated accordingly.I dont know if its a linguisticly correct approach,but thats what I do.

Sounds like a lot of work. But i suppose it will be worth it if done right. Maybe do like as elfie says do a sentence and then translate it as you go along. And make a note of the translation and after a while you should have quite a lot of words to work with.
