@ za1wifey - 3.07.14 - 03:30pm Although I don't agree with the law and feel it takes away a womans right to dress as she chooses unfortunately it is the law of the land and has to be upheld if it refers to all face coverings. I don't think the niqab is compulsory but I do respect the women who choose to wear it. I dont think a woman is choosing to wear a face covering. She is following Muslim rules written by insecure Muslim men way back in the day. Now those women have a dilema. Follow muslim law or follow the law of the land. Im sure the choice will be made for them. |

@ mr.krabs - 3.07.14 - 05:38pm I dont think a woman is choosing to wear a face covering. She is following Muslim rules written by insecure Muslim men way back in the day. Now those women have a dilema. Follow muslim law or follow the law of the land. Im sure the choice will be made for them. As I said before, the veil isn't compulsory and I would never be so arrogant as to speak for all Muslim women who wear it but for the ones I do personally know, yes it is a choice and I'm pretty sure there's plenty more who would agree. You hear non Muslims commenting on how Muslim men oppress Muslim women and take away their voice and choices but when a Muslim woman stands up and says the veil is my choice, this is what makes me happy you have non Muslims sayin no. Its not ur choice, u don't know what makes u happy, I know better so I will take it away from u. Don't underestimate the stregnth of Muslim women. Come meet the women in my family and try and tell them what they're thinkin or feelin or that u know what's the better choice for them. You'll get b***hslapped to kingdom come. |

Would you say the strength of the women in your family largely comes from where they live, in a free country like SA? Would it be the same if they lived in Saudi?

@ kimjongl - 3.07.14 - 07:47pm Not first hand, but I suspect it's not as free as South Africa, have you been? You don't need first hand experience when news corporations allow us insights into places like saudi ..... After the 1990 protest, a number of women were arrested or lost their jobs. They were also widely condemned in religious sermons and the then Grand Mufti - Saudi Arabias highest religious authority - issued a fatwa against women driving. |

Well we can ask and possibly get an answer under duress or we could realize we are living in the information age where information about the laws of many countries is freely available.
