A while ago, there were ads appearing here on pro for Free O2 Sims. I'd like to know if anyone has actually received any free sims thru responding to this ad. The reason I'm asking: I havent received anything yet. And I've learnt from previous experience that some of these independant free sim offers (ie those not found on networks' own sites) are often info-gathering scams for spam senders...

...So, has anyone actually got free sims thru this particular ad? If not, Mister Pro should be told. I'm sure he doesnt want to be helping spammers... does he?

Nah, i think these spammers need hanging by their test*cles (or maybe their nipples if they're laydeez). I often post on the usenet group Computers Operating Systems Linux Advocacy (COLA for short) - i do it thru Google Groups, and, knowing how spammers monitor usenet looking for email addys, i made a new gmail addy just for posting there. Occasionally i check the inbox, and i get so much spam....

...literally hundreds of spam mails per month. Some are scams (eg, i get told that my paypal acc may have been compromised and there's a link to a site where i can type in my personal details and password to verify that i'm me - funny, as i dont even have a paypal acc); some viruses, like an attachment to an email i got purporting to be a security patch from microsoft (i dont own any MS stuff)....

...I've been pretty fortunate really; but there are plenty of ppl out there, not as security-minded as me, who could have fallen for some of this. The email pretending to be a Microsoft update: it sure _looked_ like it was from MS, the (obviously forged) SENT BY address was right. I dont know how to identify such forgeries: and if i was a MS customer and it was sent to my usual addy, i may......

...well have clicked on the attachment and ended up contracting the Goddess only knows what foul virus. Thankfully i dont use Microsoft - maybe one day the rest of the world will come to its collective senses and say goodbye to Uncle Bill's piles of cr*p.

Can i just say i bet O2 having a giggle with the polish O2 sim's they dont work it says texts on them i tried sending a text with the 300 free ment to get when u activate the sim and it says sending failed and wap says authentication failed. Yet the letter is in polish but they sent it from their registered office in UK so is slough poland now erm confused.

And when i call the topup line it says u need to activate this sim and topup 10 pounds

Deadpunk i got me two 02 sims that i ordered off the advertisment in ere a thought they werent gonna arrive as i must of ordered them bout a month ago.

Did any1 know u can get upto 2 Vodafone free sims again, i ordered mine on Thursday.

duno if this has been said but in voda stores if you go in... find some little folded up leaflets... they give away 1 free voda sim voucher in them. its in my local store on the wall anyway. just grab loads lol.
