When using my old phone as a modem, I'd get a wide variety of speeds... and none of them were fast. It seems to be down to local conditions I'm afraid. A landline-based service provider can quote a guaranteed data transfer rate, but the nature of the cellular beast means the providers just can't make such promises. Except guaranteeing that the speed will be S-L-O-W!

Depends how busy the network is... How many people is on the internet from the network you are using... So the bandwith has to be shared... But at night. With 3G download speed maximum is 65 to 70 kbps...

You stupid fks! If you use gprs on your phone, your computer, or in outer space, it's gonna be the same speed. If it says 'connected at 1mbps' its still gonna run at 48kbps.

kbps mean kilobytes per second, which is browsing speed, and download rate is kbps, but means kiloBITS per second...2 find that out, just divide 48 by 8, and u wil get ur download rate.
