i just checked my internet window (that opens when i insert the dongle in) and it said transmit rate was 2.97kbs when i clicked to go back to tech forum. im assuming that is completely pathetic even for prepaid wireless?

While browsing you wont get the real speed. Downloading huge files the real speed can be tested. On cnet.com their are many software for testing network data transfer speed

problem with broadband is the ping packets eveything are huge. So out of about 10mb 3mb of that data is wot you get the other is network data. At the end the networks are robbing people on a huge scale with broadband

I download average 500mb per hour with mtn 3g via my sony w890i. That is with torrents. Paid like 5bucks so far.

yes i believe you when i dreaming mtn is 2 rand a mb unless you bought data bundles which will work out 80 sents a mb which is still f ing expensive because you pay like wot R500 bucks to that tarrifs. Torrent or no torrents the costs are the same because you are using a modem so you will have to connect to a router to get the adress your looking for and that routers belong to mtn nice try

7mbit is the fastest you get with a modem 20mbit iburst started but its for malls and airports only. the goverment try to force them to bring the prices down but they are so stupid why not just open it up so that any company can come and start a network. the more competition the cheaper the prices like US and UK

helkom if you buy a gig its around R70 some cases its R25 but iyou have monthly rental fe's of the line and your speed depends how far are you from the centre which determines they line they can offer you.cell companies dont have lines they have towers which 3 of them share most of the times so maintenance are minimum. why so expensive then?
