Windows disk. Recovery console. First chkdsk /r then copy it from then type fixmbr then type fixboot. Exit and see if it boots

Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS. Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32. New hard disk drive being added. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record. Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hdd cable

Did you do what I said. Chkdsk then the fixmbr and fixboot? It should fix it. Copy the ntdlr from windows cd if it still won't work

Use your windows disk. Boot with it then choose recovery console option.

NTLDR is a simple boot manager that requires BOOT.INI configuration file nd NTDETECT.COM initial hardware detector.

have you actauly looked at the hdd connection? did the person that killed it tell you what he/she did b4 the problem occured?, you dont want the recovery console you want the cmd console where you can thype in chkdisk, fixmab and other shell commands.
