This is the wonderfull experiance ive had with my new N Type router. 1) my computer will not the read the installation cd despite the fact that it reads every other disc perfectly. Upon googling it I find other people have had the same issue. 2) no problem I thought, I Will download it from belkin uk. But no the download doesnt work. |

Oddly when you attempt to download it vlc player kicks in and tells it cant read the file! Thinking it could be an issue with firefox I Tried internet explorer with the same result! So now iam left with a useless pile of junk that iam taking back to currys tomorrow.

VLC... Have you associated .bin files with the player and that is the firmware that you're trying to download?

I can't see a setup download on the UK website for that model. The US site has one for an N300 but different model number, you should probably try to find out if it's compatible with your router. Why don't you just enter the settings manually?

So long as you DON'T use firmware from another model, I can't see there being a problem apart from the setup giving you an error or something.

i usually avoid belkin, but i have the V1 of this model setup for my dad at his place. works well for a belkin, never been any problem. +1 vote for manual config, at least you know it's done right.

I can assure you the firmware for this model is on the site. As for manual configuration thats beyond me. Where would I get the settings from? I havnt linked or associated vlc with anything. I have no probs with any other downloads just as I dont have a problem with loading any other cd or dvd so why this download?

Out of curiosty I tried the cd on my windows 7 laptop and it works. That seems to suggest it has a bug with xp? The product packaging states it supports win xp, vista and win 7.

I thought it would be just a case of swapping the disk over but now after discovering it works on win 7 its complicated the issue further cos when currys try the disc it will work on win 7. Thats gonna make me look like either a liar or a fool as obviously no longer have xp computers instore.

I have read a lot of similar issues about that too . But a lot of people had a successful installation on Windows XP SP2 X64 . I guess buy the time Windows 8 comes out , they will learn how to write program for Windows 7 .

You don't need firmware. I would bet its a .bin file and that's why VLC is opening it.

Then again... why don't you just set up the router from your win7 laptop if it is working on that. Then just connect your XP machine afterwards.

It seems ive found a solution but I Cant understand why people still use xp sp2. Xp is a lot less secure than vista and win 7 as it is. To not apply the latest updates to me seems madness.
