 Just finished setting up my brother's machine. Had fresh Mint Cinnamon pre-installed on it. (it was a recycled laptop) The sticker says it is a Fujitsu Lifebook from 2015 with i3 and 8GB RAM etc.

A proper desktop Linux distro conforms to standards and thus most of things look and feel the same. Same for macOS too. They can do pretty much anything except games. (developing of games is still about 99 percent on Windows/DirectX)

Regular Ubuntu and GNOME feel a little bit sluggish and they have relatively high system requirements.
