@ banbury - 26.03.21 - 07:30pm Yes over here they are dealing with Ericsson and Nokia. The only Huawei phone not available here is probably the Mate 40 Pro Plus. but maybe that wasn't targeted for Europe anyway? Iam sure you know more about that side than me. the camera system on the Plus model has a marginally higher DXO mark score not a huge difference. Yeah the Plus is an incredibly scarce model, seems to be mostly sold in Asia and probably will make its way to the UAE as well, I am surprised it's not sold in the UK, maybe in parts of Europe where Huawei is more popular will get it? I have not heard of the Plus coming to South Africa either although a fellow reviewer was lucky enough to get the P40 Pro Plus and I got the Mate XS foldable, but neither were widely available down here. One of our biggest netweos, Vodacom (part of Vodafone group) has the Mate 40 Pro on pre-order right now |

According to a recent tech magazine I was reading 4GB of ram is still fine and I would say 3GB as a minimum. 6GB still seems to be the sweet spot unless your high end gaming. My old Galaxy S5 struggles with 2GB of ram today though lol as you would expect but she still keeps going never had one single problem with the phone since new in 2014 and its been heavily used too and still on the same battery amazing a credit to Samsung even if it is plastic fantastic.

@ polo_011 - 27.03.21 - 07:09pm Crazy how far things have come ![]() I don't know where I read this but I saw a comment about the game port to Symbian, the guy said he remembered having to upgrade his ram or his video card on his PC just so that he could play Quake and now it runs on a phone. mobile phones now could probably match the performance of meeting hall sized super computers of the late 80s |

What is shocking to me is how people still see these devices as just a phone when it has so much power and so much data it processes every single minute even while sitting idle. Imagine, this is a mini supercomputer that can still last a day of usage without breaking a sweat and if you lose it it can actually ruin your life. A lady recently lost her iPhone XR near my place of work just before Covid-19 hit, the criminals wasted no time, got into her banking app and transferred the equivalent of 2150GBP to one of their accounts, pretty good payday for them after stealing a phone worth less than 500GBP at the time. |

@banbury how are you getting around using the Mate 40 Pro? The more I use it the more I wonder what the fuss is about regarding Google not being on it, literally everything I need is here including my Gmail which is synced to the Huawei Email App just fine with Push Notifications.

My only issue is the company I work for not supporting some Androids for Enterprise integration which is a must for me.

To be honest the only reason I ended up with the Mate 40 is cos it was the only phone I could upgrade to on EE without my line rental going up. I was surprised they even had it so when they told me there would be no increase and I only needed to pay 55 English pounds sterling upfront I jumped at the chance. maybe its the only way they can sell them in the Uk.

hmm do EE have a page of sneaky workarounds and sideloads setup for it ? be nice if they did for the users who won't have a clue what they've walked into. |

On the EE forum someone asked: where can I get my Mate 40 unlocked? another member replied: have you tried another sim? mines already unlocked EE then responded and asked: where did you buy your phone from? imagine their surprise when the reply came: from EE lol. It sounds like some unlocked handsets have slipped through the net. Finally I now have 5G reception in my area on 02 and the Mate 40 works fine on their 5G.

Things seem to be looking better and better, pretty chuffed with this news as the Mate 40 Pro has really got me loving it lol, the great thing here is that developers are always trying to find ways to improve the Huawei experience because it still has a huge market share in China and in places like Australia, New Zealand and the African continent that all have a great amount of Chinese expats, it's actually beneficial for developers to do all they can to support Huawei devices. ![]() |

@ banbury - 16.04.21 - 10:14pm Ive got Petal maps now with the latest update but I havnt tried it out yet Yeah same here. By the way have you noticed how the Always On Display lights up if you walk up to the phone? Almost as if there is a sensor that is monitoring the room or something? If I take a few steps to the phone or I simply sit up from the couch while the phone is on the table the AOD lights up, very interesting. Leave it on the table, walk out the room and comeback towards the phone and boom it lights up. |

phones have a proximity sensor that knows when your phone is up against your face (in calls, to avoid face touches) maybe they've added another wider field version that detects someone's approach !?
