Ok then lol. In may 1993 tool were scheduled to play the garden pavilion in hollywood. The band learnd at the last minit that the garden pavilion belonged to L.Ron hubbards church of sci entology which betrays the band's ethics about how a person should nt follow a belief system that constricts their development as a human behng.

Um ment human being. In a recent interview with blender,maynard recalled the he spent most of the show baaing like a sheep at the audience. In september 1995 shortly aftr recording for their 2nd album began. Damour left the band amicably. In november he was replaced by justin chancellor.a member of peach. An english band with whom tool had previously toured in europe.

After justin chancellor came on board, tool finishd the already begun AENIMA, which was subsequently released in october of 1996. Once again, a single had difficulty gaining air play. Ths time it was stinkfist. MTV renamed the music video of the song to track 1. Because of the offensive connotations.and multiple radio edits were made to both shorten the song and change its lyrics.

However an overwhelming fan response compelled most radio stations to play the track uncut. In addition mat pinfield ,the host of MTV'S 120 MINUTES, responded to fan complaints by waving his fist in frnt of hs face on air while explaning the reason for the name change as he introducd the video. Aenima would be tool's last studio album release for 5 years.

Aenima was dedicated to satirist bill hicks who died 2.5 years b4 its release. Some clips of hick's performances are included on aenina and undertow. Including multiple sketches abt sychoactive drugs and sample of bleeting sheep. The lenticular casing of the aenina shows california falling into the pacific ocean and chorus of the song aenima features the lyrics: learn to swim ,il see u dwn in

In arizona bay. These are references to anther popular hicks sketch about his hatered of los angels. Eventually aenima would win tools first grammy award. Ok thats it for nw lol. My thumb hurts. Got loads mo to type lol.

Sadly the poor choice in my local music store meant most of the albums i wanted werent in stock, but came away quite pleased with soft machines third, gongs double cd other side of the sky and.. Octavarium by dream theater.. Opinions to follow after a good listening evening .!

Soft Machine: Gods! This band and Gong was 2 of the bests bands in Canterbury Scene. Soft Machines was more jazz-rock than prog band but you can say them just a Canterbury Scene band and this is enough. For those who dont know, Canterbury Scene is a sub-genre in prog rock, and probably a unique rock style. Many bands under this scene had a totally different sound, like Soft Machine and Caravan

I'll let u know about the dozens of nuggets in octavarium once you've listened to it...to give u a taste-look at all the references to 5 and 8...also,if u read music notation,note all the keys of each song in the album,which r shown in the sleeve...something to ponder in the meantime

Yep @ anduan im hugely into canterbury scene stuff, youre right its a sub genre of its own..with jazz an important factor.. Got soft machines first cd and heard the 3rd was far jazzier so im excited by the prospect, and same with gong..daevid allen is a god.. Hoping to get steve hillage solo albums too.

And thanks @ playfan, look forward to having plenty of octavarium chat once ive got into it properly, will look out for the stuff mentioned..ah what a good prog day its been !

Great great great musicians who played great music! And im glad that at last there are few people here who knows about Canterbury Scene, 7 in 10 UK people i met they dont know what Canterbury Scene is!!!??

Also caravan, just love that band, played land of grey and pink nonstop when i got it.. The organ playing is superb. @ anduan if you havent heard of HATFIELD AND THE NORTH ..it was a band with both soft machine and caravan members in..they did 2 albums and theyre amazing.
