LOVE that programme. I don't find it demeaning at all. Every person on the show is fully capable of choosing to be on tv or not.

It is a good program shoes love can conquer anything. But a sane, sound of mind person shouldn't date a person with SEVERE MENTAL disabilities. Mental disability is like a child trapped in an adults body. My nephew for example he is 15 now but mentally is around 8/9 and always will be. If an adult was to date him in the future that would just be wrong, he wouldn't know wrong from right ext would you date a child? No. That's why those special dating agencies are about.. matching people's disabilities.

@ nomnom - 18.01.15 - 11:36pm It depends on the disability, they are many and varied and some invisible to most people. I agree. Obviously if someone was completely of sound mind yet had a physical disability then it would be fine. But I guess what Tinkas is trying to say... Is that some people might take the pi*s out of someone who has severe mental issues. For example I read in the paper lately about a family whom wanted their daughters arranged marriage to be terminated due to the fact that the bride to be was not of sound mind. Basically she had the IQ of a child which meant that she didn't quite get the concept of sex and would not be able to make such choices with regards to everyday life. |

So you're pointing out an adult and saying their disability means they should never have a sexual relationship..? Interesting. |

No I am pointing out that people with SEVERE mental disabilities and I did out that in capitals twice now as I know how narrow minded people are on these forums and like to twist things. Severe mental disabilities should only date/sleep with people of there own capabilities.. Now again for those with poor eye sight severe mental and NOT physical disabilities is what I said |

It would be no different to encouraging a minor to have sex, which is wrong. People with SEVERE disabilities have the brain age of a child and are easily influenced. Some people would take full advantage of that and then simply excuse it because by law that said person was legally above the consenting age. |

I dunno, I watched 'one born every minute' where a couple consisted of a 'normal' guy and his wife, who had a learning disability. They were deeply in love, and he said he adored her cos she was the kindest, most loving woman he'd ever met. She wasn't going to be able to look after their baby on her own, but he was going to find paid help for her. It was lovely.

Nope, it happened when she was 13. The point is though, that she wasn't being taken advantage of, or out of her depth. She was loved, cherished for who she was, and appreciated for her qualities. That's a huge thing, and one which many people will never experience in life. That's a beautiful thing, I think.

I see. So what we're saying here is that someone's only allowed to love someone on the condition that they also have a disability? It doesn't matter if I'm ideal for a severely mentally disabled adult who has their own life to live. I will be judged as some kind of pervert, and she isn't allowed to be with someone of 'normal' disposition, she's only allowed to be with someone who's also severely mentally disabled. I'm glad we've cleared up what love is. |
