. .Harper, Anderson began to play more acoustic guitar, and, often alone at Chrysalis's state of the art studio, ended up overdubbing many of the other instruments himself. Consequently, the music is more expansive than before, with Aqualung's tale of the abused, ailing tramp shifting through heavy riffing through grandiose folk to breakneck rock- a self conscious Martin Barre apparantly did his

If all this could be seen as a summation of the past, then side two was a hymn to the future. Almost literally, given that it comprised a suite of songs concerning organised religion. Here, the musical palette broadens further to support such weighty themes ,My God featuring a chorale

Despite some token burning sessions by American Bible Belters, Aqualung exceeded all expectations to reach number 7 in the US. Buoyed by its succes, from here on in, Anderson would

*laughs* @hamburger intro.. d*mn, my prescience fails me again.. I would have assumed Aqualung would be up there, although my preference has always been for Songs from the Wood, it's so, like, pastoral man.. *laughs* BTW that Beatles remix job that sgtpepr alerted the forum to yesterday is soo-poyb, and a COMMERCIAL station played it all the way through with nary a break...

Not to take anything away from Aqualung as it's a fine album, great guitar from Martin Barre and a broadening of scope all round, but, as Ian Anderson said re the hoo ha of an anniversary remaster version; It's a solid album, but we went on to do far more complex things musically, I'm just glad the fuss is over a 'good' Tull album than a bad or mediocre one.
