John Wesley is a solo performer, his albums have members of PT contribute to them. Worth checking out if you can find them. Watched the rush docu last wek, fantastic it is.

correction, no members of PT worked on Wesleys solo albums, but Sean Malone does :)

And now the critical question: Who is Sean Malone? ![]() |

Just been watching some live footage of the brilliant head hands and feet from 71, albert lee of course on guitar . . but what i didn't know until i saw them , was chas hodges is none other than the chas and dave guy! So the writer of novelty songs started off as a respected songwriter in a great rock band

Sean Malone? seriously you never heard of this fantastic bassist/Chapman stick player? OSI/Cynic/Death/Aghora/ and last but not least Gordian Knot

Ah yes Sean Malone, loved his work in Gordian Knot's Emergent album...Not to mention that the one and only Bill Bruford also plays drums on this album and John Myung played bass on the first album I think?Anyways, I'm currently listening to some Steely Dan; great jazz rock here, as we all already know though ;)

Oh and apparently OSI is releasing another album next year...Seems they're really coming into their own as a band - this will be their 4th official studio outing (not counting the Free remixes); although I've never REALLY gotten into them too much.

@anduan, have you heard of Brad Mehldau?(I'm sure it's q stupid question) but yes I got his Largo album recently; great jazz pianist and he plays a fantastic cover of Radiohead's Paranoid Android...Lots of good stuff lately

I see now that i have Sean Malone in the 1st OSI album, but i didnt remember his name. @Playfan, i know Mehldau from friends, videos and Jazz mags, unfortunately i have only 1 track in my collection lol. But im thinking to buy something from him soon ![]() |

Hey dean this is a most bizarre coincidence, but when i read your post about steely dan i was actually playing one of their albums . . dragged them all out a few weeks ago and have been having a happy reconciliation ever since

they reached their zenith with aja in my view, one of the most perfectly made albums i've ever heard. the session musicians routinely broke down after being told to do their parts over and over. . michael macdonald who does the high vocals in PEG has said he absolutely hated working with f*gan and becker

@gabriel9 | 21 July 10 |
But every beat, note and sound on that album is precision planned. i dont think of it as jazz rock as such, because there's a rigid structure and pop element to the songs , i actually think steely dan sound like absolutely nobody else

Hi guys, currently listening to If These Trees Could Talk. Not prog, but definately gabriel and playfan may like them if you havn't already (bet you have)

I'll check that out. hey just to put the perfectionism of steely dan in perspective, their aja album has 36 musicians involved. such an amount would usually mean an orchestral section. . but nothing like that. they just were that uncompromising

Mark knopfler of dire straits played on one of their albums, a guitarist thats since become a rock legend. his part was cut down to about 2 seconds. . . .

just reading a great article in a national newspaper about prog rock, which gives the satisfying news that the Classic Rock Presents Prog magazine sells 22,000 copies an issue . their best selling copy had jethro tull on the cover. now THAT'S even more surprising !

Yeah Aja is really a great album,got a good simple flow to it yet still complex enough to remain interesting...Glad to hear the prog mag is doing well,i try to buy it as often as i can to keep it supported but it is R225 which is quite alot of money for a magazine,especially on student budget lol
